Ease and Release: Yoga and the Myo-Fascia

with Tomas Hicks

East Side is thrilled to bring back Tomas’s popular Ease and Release workshop: a potentially life changing approach to releasing your body at the cutting edge of anatomical research.

Starting at the sole of the foot, the foundation of our bodies, we will release the myo-fascia, the tissue wrapping up our muscles, using balls, dowels, and blocks. Each release is coupled with Yoga Asana (postures) to help lengthen and strengthen our muscles. Additional focus will be on hips, pelvis, and core.

Fascial Health and Yoga: An In-Depth Introduction with Tomas Hicks

In this workshop you will learn what is the fascia and its origins; how we can have it functioning ideally; how Yoga asana practice can work with the fascia for maximum benefit; and how we can release the deep tensions of this miraculous web-like structure using various props. This 4-hour introduction to fascial health will be based on the Anatomy Trains concept of Thomas Myers and the fuzz conception of wholeness of Gil Hedley (see video above). You will learn the fascial lines and how to pair them with asana and pranayama practices for maximum benefit.

Tomas Hicks is an E-RYT Yoga Teacher and Trainer.

**this workshop is ideal for practitioners who want to learn more about this subject for home practice and for teachers who want to share it with their students**

Qi Gong and Self Massage with Ryan Thompson

East Side is happy to welcome Ryan from Grant Street Wellness just upstairs to share with us his knowledge of acupuncture and Qi Gong.

This class will provide an introduction to the Zhan Zhuang (standing like a tree) system of Qi Gong, which is a very powerful system that is easy to learn, and very flexible in its practice. This system opens the meridians, and allows for energy to flow more smoothly around the body.

We will also learn some meridian theory and acupuncture point location as a solid introduction to the traditional Chinese medicine meridian system, and the knowledge to trace the meridians on the body, and also find and massage specific acupuncture points.

Great for beginners and experienced Qi Gong practitioners.

OMFEST! at East Side Yoga Studio

Come hang out with the community and Om for a whole hour. Learn how the sound of Om can stimulate your heart, throat, and third eye chakras, how it feels to meditate with sound, and to connect with your community through sound.

It’s a wonderful and unique meditation that can be deeply healing. Everyone is welcome. You can move around, lie down, take breaks if you need to, bring water.

Then hang out with us afterwards and have tea and snacks to share your experience!
